Abode was founded in 2003 by Michelle Petrie, a formally qualified interior designer from Cape Town. Originally a conventional interior design/decoration consulting service, the company has evolved to include the design, production and sales of its own range of fun, quirky but functional fittings and furnishings. All products are locally crafted by previously disadvantaged individuals or small businesses – making us a proudly South African company from concept to creation.

Abode has exhibited at Design Indaba Cape and has won an Eskom lighting award for Michelle’s unique ‘table/light’. The company’s products are regularly featured in major lifestyle publications such as Elle Decoration, House & Leisure and Garden & Home.
